1. Which building typology you are
researching?
Modern art performance center.
2. Why are you researching this building
typology?
Because:
A. Many performance centers have very cool
design, especially the new existing ones. It will be a great chance for me to
do the research on those cool design buildings. And hopefully it will help me
to develop my own design.
B. Having this building typology, I can learn
more about modern art, and apply the new knowledge to the design process.
C. There are a lot of different spaces and
programs we need to design to fit in a performance center. It will help me to
develop my own spaces and program problem solving skill. The site is not a big
one for a typical performance center, it is more challenging and more fun to
work on this project. (And the narrow site makes it even harder to design.)
D. After visiting the site and the
researching, I realized that there is no buildings function as an art gallery
or center in that area. So I think a modern art performance center will be more
suitable for that area and good for both the neighborhoods and the visitors.
3. What is the specialty of this building
type you would like to research i.e. museum for dance, school for digital
media…?
As I mentioned before, the object I will mostly
focus on will be modern art and art performance center, which including
different types of performance spaces, exhibitions media. The other main
specialty of the project will be how to make sure the performance center can
get involve into the community activities and make good connections to the
locals and visitors. The art performance center may be in small scale and be
more focus on specific topics of modern art.
4. What are the examples that you will be
researching… list the examples, location and architect (10 examples)

5. What are you goals for working with this building type?
My goal on working the modern art performance
center is absorb different design concepts from varies research projects; develop the design skills on exterior and interior design; enhance the conceptual thesis statement throughout the process; learn how to
apply good material selections for better building performance; get a more
critical sense of how human activities impact the design of the space. In
summary, the goal is make me a better designer by doing a semester period
commercial design project.
6. What are the program elements that you see
included at this point in your building? (May evolve once more research is
done)
Some of the program elements are performance
hall, multipurpose theatre, exhibit rooms, education center, information center.
I like your typology. Can you please work on your blog graphics.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of information so far. I would also look at smaller theaters within a very very urban setting. Many of your choices so far are very large and free standing.
ReplyDeleteI am a bit concerned when you say that one of your goals is to "absorb different design concepts from various research projects". Study the work of others and learn from them, but remember that your proposal will have to be your own, unique response to the design problem that you are dealing with.
